During pregnancy 🤰, hormones such as relaxin are released throughout your body - these hormones help to relax the ligaments and increase mobility of your pelvis and other joints. This process is designed to prepare the body for your growing baby, 👶 and ultimately birth.
As your pelvis is kept stable by these various ligaments and muscles, there are certain associated symptoms that may accompany this relaxation of ligament and increased mobility of joints such as aching, stabbing or sharp pain 💥 in the pelvic or pubic region. This usually occurs during the second and third trimester.
Pelvic pain is something our Chiropractors at Waverley Road Chiropractic & Wellness see everyday!
Here are their best tips to help reducing your pain:
- Getting adjusted! Seeing your Chiropractor and getting your pelvis adjusted and ligaments released is a great way of helping relieve aches and pains that come with pregnancy
- Avoid doing activities on one leg 🦩 and movements that involve wide separation of your legs (getting in and out of the car), be mindful of these movements and take your time if you have to perform them
- Compression shorts or leggings! These can be a great tool to help stabilise your pelvis during activities such as walking/shopping or having to be on your feet for prolonged periods of time.
If you have been experiencing any pelvic pain relating to your pregnancy or would like some more information, book an appointment to see one of our Chiropractors online or by calling (03) 9572-0277
